What the law asks trustees to keep
The Trusts Act 2019 lists core documents that each trustee should keep, so far as is reasonable, for as long as they are a trustee. When a trustee steps down, the documents pass to the trustees who carry on. The first group in this checklist follows that list.
The yearly jobs come mostly from Inland Revenue. Most trusts must file a tax return each year and, since the 2021 to 2022 income year, give extra information about settlements, distributions and the people involved.
